"It's not enough to know we don't like our body, we need to go deeper. There's reasons why and so many body image courses skip this!"

Take up space is Messy Health's new course, working with all mediums including written content, activities, and video to unlearn any beliefs you currently have about your body and sensuality that are getting in the way of you feeling peace, confident and powerful in your body. Take up space is a Health at Every SIze, Body positive, fat positive and non-diet based program.

How we feel about our body spills into so many areas of our life. Take Up Space focuses on body image and sexuality. We wanted to create a resource that showed how close the two topics are intertwined and how we cab begin to become aware of our limiting beliefs, unpack our ideas and stories around body image, sexuality, relationships and boundaries.

How are we meant to heal our relationship with our body without understanding why this relationship was fractured in the first place? How are we meant to feel comfortable in relationships, in our boundaries, in our sex life, if we don't feel comfortable in our body? Take up space addresses the reasons why we don't like our body, helps us unlearn and then relearn body acceptance, neutrality and respect.

These things are the building blocks for a solid foundation and happy relationship with our body. With this strong foundation we can build self-care practices that actually rejuvenate us, we can communicate what our boundaries are, what we’d like to explore etc.

This course is the first of its kind. It’s a blend of the usual body image work but also addresses social justice issues like fatphobia, sexism, misogyny, racism and heteronormativity.

Who is this course for?? This course is welcome to all genders, sexualities and identities and we never assume how you identify. But this course has been written by a cis-gendered, pansexual woman therefore their lived experience is limited and may not share the same lived experience (we have written this course based off of lived experience) as you and may not resonate as much. Vulva owners may find that they resonate more with the topics covered.

"When we set boundaries, our whole world changes. Our relationship with others gets better because our needs are known, and our relationship with ourselves becomes so amazing because we know that we can trust ourselves to make sure our needs are respected"

Maddie
Hi there!! My name is Maddie (she/her) and I am a registered Nutritionist, educator and student therapist from a little beach town in south west Australia. I am the founder of Messy Health which has grown from an Instagram account where I share my tips and tricks on nutrition, intuitive eating, binge eating, and more, to a private practice and online school!
If you are interested, I have a bachelor of food and nutrition science, currently undertaking a master of counselling and will be starting my PhD next year. I have worked in the Australian and American media as a nutrition advisor, and as a researcher in gut health! I currently work clinically and facilitate our food therapy program with my amazing clients.
Messy Health is a company dedicated to creating an educational space for those working on their mental health, healing their relationship with food, feeling peaceful about their body, and taking back joy and pleasure in their life. Through my journey of developing peace around food and my body, coupled with my education in nutrition, food science, and psychotherapy, I have the knowledge and understanding to help facilitate healing around food, body image, the body, and how they all intersect.
Although the majority of my academic training is in nutrition and food science, I am very passionate about sexual health. sex positivity, body image, relational health, trauma and addiction, and all aspects of mental health and I plan to continue exploring these areas while studying mental health counselling. I practice through a feminist, social justice, Health At Every Size lens and hold inclusivity and accessibility as a top priority.
